Jubilee Terrace (1950s) Attic Bedroom
I have decided to make the other room in the attic into a bedroom for a teenage girl. The term "teenager" really
came into common use during the Fifties acknowledging the individual tastes, needs and identity of young people
in the 13-19 age group. British youngsters often imitated their more advanced contemporaries in the USA as
all things American were seen as the epitome of "cool".
In this teenager's bedroom pop records lie on the floor as do copies of "Picturegoer" and "Picture Show" magazines.
Posters on the wall reflect her taste in music and film stars but the presence of toys, games and an Enid Blyton book
indicate that in the Fifties childhood often lasted much longer than today. The cluttered and untidy desk completes
the picture.
