Edwardian House (1930s) Main Bedroom

The main bedroom was the first room that I started to decorate. I chose pink which was a colour that was very popular for bedrooms in the 1930's. Picture rails, skirtings and the door are all painted dark brown to try to recreate the dark stained woodwork so practical in an age of open fires and heavy smokers. The floor is covered with wood effect linoleum covered with a carpet square and in the tiled fireplace there is a gas fire.

The dressing table has bottles of perfume and a brush, comb and mirror set. I find that choosing large pieces of furniture for a Dolls House can be difficult as it must compliment the other items both in scale and "heaviness". Therefore, even though this is the main bedroom, a single wardrobe looks better than a double. A tallboy and linen chest complete the furniture.

I have "suggested" clothing by a pile of fabric on the bed and a piece of flimsy cloth poking out of one of the drawers in the tallboy. I find fabrics very difficult in Dolls Houses with them often appearing too bulky in 1/12th scale. After I made the Dining Room curtains out of heavy craft paper I repeated the technique in the bedroom painting the paper a suitable pink.
