Edwardian House (1930s) Exterior Decoration

As with Jubilee Terrace I wanted to create a realistic textured feel to the walls and roof. This time I went into the local "Do-it-Yourself" shop and bought some self-adhesive floor tiles at 58p each. I chose the same grey as for Jubilee Terrace but chose a lighter red for the brickwork. After measuring and marking the back of each tile I found that one tile produced 150 "slates" or 360 "bricks". Cutting was quite easy with household scissors but a bit tedious! However, I think that the effort was worthwhile in the effect produced as well as being very reasonable in cost.

I painted the walls in a stone coloured emulsion paint bought in a tester pot and started to lay the "bricks". With the sides of the house as well as the front to do this is quite time-consuming although quite addictive when you get going! The roof I painted black and this time I did not overlap the "tiles" but laid them edge to edge.
